Welcome to the Mars Volatiles and Climate Surveyor (MVACS) official web site!

MVACS is the Mars Polar Lander's integrated science payload which will operate on the surface of Mars during the next three months. The goal of our website is to give everyone in the world an opportunity to see the latest images and other data from the surface of Mars, and to follow the progress of our investigation day by day.

Our site is served under the URL www.marspolarlander.com. It is one of the four sicence sites which are part of JPL's main Mars Polar Lander site (http://polarlander.jpl.nasa.gov). Our part of the site originates from the Mars Science Operations Center at UCLA where our team will reside during landed operations. We serve it under the marspolarlander.com URL because is easy to remember, and lets us serve the site to a large audience without impacting our networks at UCLA.

Our website has a number of unique offerings, including:

  • Mission Status and Timetable provides you with the latest information about the status of our investigation, as well as detailed information regarding the activities we plan to conduct on the surface of Mars, when we expect to receive the data back on Earth, and schedules for media events at JPL and UCLA.

  • Live Lander Image Downlink enables you to view full-resolution images taken by our SSI and RAC cameras as they are sent back from Mars.

  • Latest Results lets you browse through an up-to-the minute compilation of a wide variety of data products generated by our payload, including images, panoramas, 3-D products, meteorology data and weather reports.

  • Links to Partner Websites which are working with our team to provide exciting content, including streaming webcasts from our operations facility, interactive and educational content, and background information on Mars exploration and Mars Science.

Our site is made possible through support from NASA, as well as support from our corporate sponsors, who have made it possible to create and serve the diverse range of content we are offering. Please take the time to check out the links to our sponsors at the bottom of our homepage.

During the mission, we will be updating our site continuously to provide you with the most complete and accurate window into the activities of our payload and team as we possibly can. Thank you for visiting our site and sharing in some of the excitement of our ongoing exploration of Mars.

    Sincerely,

    David A. Paige
