SpaceWatch, presented by the Omega Watch Company, is an Internet TV channel webcasting shows that you watch on your computer. The programs on this site are new, original, and can only be found on the web.

SpaceWatch's "Live from Mars" is a behind-the-scenes look at the operation of a planetary mission. By following the efforts of the MVACS team, the show will present an intimate look at the people behind the Mars Polar Lander mission and try to shed some light on the human side of space science. The show will launch on December 3 as a live event timed with the lander's arrival on Mars. Afterwards, the show will update the situation daily at Mission Control and on Mars.

WITS

WITS, the Web Interface for Telescience, is the command software used by the Mars Polar Lander robotic arm operations team. The Downloads Page contains a public version of WITS that you can download and use on your computer.

Once installed, the public version of WITS will allow you to:

  • View images taken by the stereo surface imager in both mosaic views and in a simulated 3D view of the lander on Mars.
  • Build scripted sequences and watch them execute on a 3D simulated lander - just as the MPL robotic arm operations team does.
  • Interactively control the simulated arm and stereo surface imager. Download new images that have been received from Mars, and play back sequences showing what the operations team told the lander to do!
