Mars Polar Lander was launched on a Delta 7425 on January 3, 1999, and will arrive at Mars on December 3, 1999. The Lander is equipped with a UHF relay for downlink via the Mars Global Surveyor and/or a direct to Earth (DTE) link that will be available for Lander commanding and as a backup downlink. (P-50607)
