Mars Global Surveyor
Mars Orbiter Camera
A Martian Sampler
MGS MOC Release Nos. M0C2-227 to MOC2-233, 22 May 2000
The Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) pictures
and accompanying captions (select images below)
were designed to illustrate some of
the range of martian features and types of image data obtained
by the MOC during the first six months that MGS was in its Mapping
Orbit, from March 1999 through August 1999. These pictures accompany
more than 25,000 additional pictures found in the NEW
MSSS Mars Global Surveyor
Mars Orbiter Camera Gallery. As of May 2000, all MOC data
acquired through August 1999 have been validated by the MGS MOC
Operations Team at Malin Space Science Systems and deposited for
permanent archive with the
NASA Planetary Data System (PDS). MGS data are archived at
6-month intervals.

Malin Space Science Systems and the California Institute of
Technology built the MOC using spare hardware from the Mars Observer
mission. MSSS operates the camera from its facilities in San Diego,
CA. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Mars Surveyor Operations Project
operates the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft with its industrial
partner, Lockheed Martin Astronautics, from facilities in Pasadena, CA
and Denver, CO.
